HMS Bounty

Brief Note on the loss of HMS Bounty, a replica tall ship.

1) Without helicopter rescue, looks like nobody would have survived.  Makes sense that these ships would not have carried life-rafts, since any storm that sank your ship would also make your life-raft useless.

2) Two men died because they were swept overboard getting into the life raft.  A worthwhile reminder that life-rafts really are a last resort, not an option to be used if your ship "might" sink.  (It looks here like there was no 'might' involved though).

3) That is insane, I can't believe people did this before airplanes, radios, diesel engines and weather forecasting.  In another era this would have been a ship that disappeared with all hands, like so many others.
